Business blogging is an important component of a B2B online marketing strategy. It’s a way to share your knowledge and be viewed as an industry expert. It also helps to improve SEO efforts by creating fresh content on your site that will be indexed and can rank in the search engines for specific keywords that you are targeting. Focusing on your own blog is crucial, but it’s important to also spend some time reading other industry blogs. It will help to keep you up to date with what is going on in the industry and can also improve your own SEO efforts. Here’s how:
Inspiration for your own content
One of the most difficult things about creating content for a B2B SEO campaign is deciding what the focus of the content should be and coming up with topic ideas. It’s enough to frustrate website owners to the point that they just don’t create enough content, or create none at all! No matter what industry or niche you are in there are always plenty of topic ideas to choose from. Sometimes it just requires some creativity and a little bit of research to find them. Reading other industry blogs is a great way to spark an idea of your own. You don’t want to copy someone else’s work but there’s nothing wrong with putting your own spin on the topic. Focus your efforts on the content that is getting the most attention (comments, social shares, etc.).
Blog comment links
Many blogs allow readers to contribute to the conversation by adding a comment at the bottom of the page. There is typically a “Website” or “URL” field that corresponds with the comment for you to leave a link back to your website or blog. If the comment gets published, the link will hyperlink to the name of the person that left the comment, which adds a link to your link portfolio. It can also generate traffic back to your site if someone likes what you had to say and wants to learn more about you. Some blog comment links are “no followed”, but it is still valuable because a link portfolio should be diverse and include a combination of “do follow” and “no follow” links.
Keyword ideas
While you never want to focus too much on it, competitor information can be helpful to an SEO campaign. If you are reading competitor blogs you can easily pick out the keywords that they are targeting. The keyword should be included in the title and throughout the content. Compare these terms to what you are currently targeting in order to find new opportunities.
Guest blogging opportunities
Submitting guest posts to other industry blogs will help to improve your visibility and build up your link portfolio. Reading other industry blogs is a good way to find these guest posting opportunities. Some blogs advertise that they are looking for guest bloggers. In other cases, it requires building up a relationship with the blogger which can be done through blog commenting and social media.
